A Kannapolis Christmas officially kicks off the Celebration of Lights in Kannapolis. The Celebration of Lights boasts more than 250,000 lights and takes place at Village Park from December 1 – 30th (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).
In addition to the light displays, other activities will also take place each night. For example, you can roast marshmallows and make s’mores. Again this year there is a permanent home for Santa. Performances from our very own Kannapolis Singing Bears will entertain the young and young at heart with a 30 minute Christmas Carol performance each hour on the hour beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. Hot chocolate and coffee are also available for purchase in the concession stand.
The Winterland Express will also take riders through the lights at the park from 6:00-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $2.00.
The Carolinas Division of the Atlantic Coast S Gaugers will also be back with their display of a 36 foot by22 foot interactive model train layout in the Community Room as part of the season of activities. The model train will be on display December 7 – December 23, 2012 (expect Mon/Tue Dec 10/11). The layout features at least3 trains in operation at all times, an 8-track center passing yard, and more than 50 buttons that can be pushed by both young and old to operate accessories around the layout. Load and unload logs from a car, operate crossing gates and signals, blow whistles, operate a cattle pen, make a playground come to life, see the dog chasing the mailman, watch the baggage smasher, and much more.
